Salam Scouts to host Queeny Park event where kids can learn about scouting, STEM, and more

By STL Magazine

Salam Day brings hands-on activities, outdoor exploration, and more than 30 local groups together for a free family event.

If your kids learn by doing, not watching, a new event at Queeny Park might be worth circling on the calendar. Salam Scouts will host its first-ever Salam Day on May 30, when it will transform part of the park into an interactive hub where families can explore outdoor skills, STEM activities, and service projects alongside more than 30 local organizations.

The setup is intentionally different from a typical festival. Instead of walking past booths, families will move through hands-on stations where kids can try things for themselves—whether that’s learning basic first aid, exploring nature with local conservation groups, or jumping into skill-based challenges led by community partners.

The event runs from noon–6 p.m. at the Robert Hall Shelter and includes two 1-mile family walks at noon and 3 p.m., along with a guided nature walk led by Missouri Master Naturalists. Participating groups include the American Red Cross, Endangered Wolf Center, Family Forward and STL CITY SC, among others.

For Salam Scouts, the event is both a community gathering and a snapshot of how its youth program is evolving. Since launching in St. Louis in 2024, the organization has grown to serve more than 500 kids across seven states, with a focus on leadership, service, and outdoor learning.
