Foreign-Born Population Continues to Grow in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS – According to the latest American Community Survey report, St. Louis is the second fastest growing metro for the foreign-born population out of the nation’s largest metros. An increase of 5,015 foreign-born residents during 2016 highlights the region’s second consecutive year of growth. The St. Louis MSA’s foreign-born population grew by 4.3% in 2016. Additionally, the increase in foreign-born relocation offsets domestic out migration from the region between 2015 and 2016. The State of Missouri also experienced an increase of 6,441 foreign-born residents in 2016. Last year, the American Community Survey reported an increase of about 10,620 foreign-born residents in the St. Louis MSA during 2015, ending three years of population loss in the region.
