KMOX: St. Louis Organization Wants to Bring New Immigrants to the Area

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Despite the Trump Administration's anti-immigrant tone, the St. Louis area organization that hopes to attract immigrants to the region is setting a lofty goal.

The Mosaic Project hopes to bring in 25,000 immigrants to the region by 2025.

Project Executive Director Betsy Cohen says it's going to take the region to get it done.

"If we can add between two and three thousand foreign born people each year, which we have done in past years, we just have to put more effort toward it with the programs that are here with international students and keeping them with our companies and companies that are moving people here," she says.

Cohen says one of those companies is Bayer which plans on bringing up to 70 families from overseas to St. Louis.

The key, she says, is make sure those who come here feel welcome so they will stay and convince other relatives, friends or co-workers to join them. She says with little population growth, the region needs the talents and abilities immigrants provide.
