What challenges have you had to overcome as a diverse business leader? My most recent challenge has been the opening of our newest venture, United Provisions in the Loop. It’s our first business in that area and we had to learn and adapt quickly. We had to ask ourselves: What kind of shoppers lives in the area? Do we focus on international foods or more traditional American brands? We order merchandise, see how it sells and then take notes. That process repeats itself over hundreds of times until we can satisfy our customers. We get such a wide range of interests it can sometimes be overwhelming. Maybe someone has come from overseas and is looking for that one special ingredient they remember from their childhood. If they ask, we’ll find it.
