STL101: Mosaic Project’s New Monthly Program to Acclimate STL Newcomers to the Region

St. Louis Mosaic Project is excited to announce the launching of STL101, a monthly program that will bring together St. Louis newcomers, natives, and internationals for an evening of connecting, socializing, and learning.

In February 2019, the Mosaic Ambassadors held a brainstorming session to identify and address the most common barriers new St. Louisans experience when breaking into the social and professional scene. Ambassadors asked: What is there to eat, see, and do? How does one connect with people who share his/her personal or professional interests? What cultural or economic opportunities does the region have to offer? The group concluded that newcomers needed a “connector”, a current resident or group in St. Louis who could provide answers to these questions. From this idea, STL101 was born. Through a series of speakers from local organizations and businesses as well as social and professional networking opportunities, STL101 will be a comprehensive resource and introductory guide for all newcomers to the region.

Held on the last Tuesday evening of every month, STL101 will host speakers from a variety of local groups that are reinvigorating the region. Speakers from some of St. Louis’ cultural, economic, and artistic innovation hubs will discuss the programs and resources they offer. This includes opportunities for volunteering, collaborating, working, and learning. Additionally, St. Louis’ parks, sports organizations, and recreational opportunities will also be represented at STL101. The program will also connect participants with ways to learn about St. Louis itself – the history of its neighborhoods and how they are changing – as well as opportunities to have a positive impact on the city through civic engagement. STL101 will play an essential role in acclimating the international population of the St. Louis region.

STL101 will kick off its first meeting on Tuesday, March 26th at the World Trade Center St. Louis located in Clayton (120 South Central, Suite 1200, St. Louis, MO 63105) 6-8pm. The first guest speaker of STL101 is “STLMade”, a St. Louis Narrative about the people and ideas that move St. Louis forward. STL101 meetings will continue to be held on the last Tuesday of the month, starting in March. There will be time for people to meet each other before and after the speaker with light refreshments.  Reserve your spot by singing up. Registration link: https://bit.ly/2H7eoV5

About St. Louis Mosaic Project

The St. Louis Mosaic Project was launched in 2012 in response to an economic impact report, outlining St. Louis to be lagging in immigrant growth as well as highlighting the economic benefits of increasing its foreign-born population. The Mosaic Project is a regional initiative that is professionally managed by St. Louis Economic Development Partnership, World Trade Center St. Louis and a 32-member committee. Its goal is to transform St. Louis into the fastest growing major metropolitan area for immigration by 2025, to add 25,000 more foreign born to the region from 2016-2025 and to promote regional prosperity through immigration and innovation.
