Join us for an interactive tour of the exhibition Buenos Aires Modern, 1935–1950, which explores Argentina’s capital as a creative laboratory where artists forged inventive visual languages in response to the city’s diverse population, rapid modernization, and complex political landscape. Fueled by the arrival of thousands of European artists, exiles, and refugees fleeing oppression on multiple fronts, during the 1930s and ’40s Buenos Aires became a hub for artistic experimentation and collaboration.

Anchored in the art of Grete Stern, Horacio Coppola, and their social circle, the exhibition—the first in the United States to examine this dynamic community—reveals how migration and cultural exchange gave rise to new forms of modernism.

Led by student educators, the Museum’s public tours encourage visitors to learn and discover through close looking, conversation, and creative engagement with artworks on view.
