Mayor names head of city office overseeing resources for immigrants, refugees

Gilberto Pinela has been appointed director of the city of St. Louis' Office of New Americans by Mayor Tishaura Jones, her office announced Sunday.

Pinela, who will take his post with the city Nov. 6, currently is communications manager for the Cortex Innovation Community, a post he's held since 2017.

The city will pay Pinela $100,282 as director of the Office of New Americans, according to a spokesperson.
