Mosaic Executive Director joins International Institute CEO Crosslin in Germany

The International Institute sponsored 1,142 refugees in the most recently completed fiscal year. What was different about the year (Oct. 1, 2015 – Sept. 30, 2016) was the rate at which refugees arrived in the latter half.

Among the new arrivals, refugees from Syria topped the list. These newcomers were drawn from 180,000 possible applicants identified by the United Nations and were residing in one of the countries of first asylum: Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan or Egypt. Once preselected and prior to US approval, they had to successfully clear an arduous 13-step US vetting process.
