International Girls Night Out - St. Louis Economic Development Partnership
Where food brings people from all over the world together.
International Girls Night Out was hosted by the St. Louis International Mentoring Program and held at STLFoodWorks on October 15th. The event is a way to introduce people to the mentoring program.
The STL International Mentoring Program’s goal is to connect international and St. Louis-area women and help welcome and integrate foreign-born women into the St. Louis community and acclimate them to St. Louis and American culture and traditions.
Keeping with the theme of bringing internationals and locals together, International Girls Night Out had rows of both international and local cuisines, all cooked by members of the program and the St. Louis Mosaic Project. One-hundred women attended this event.
“I felt really special to be invited to cook and share the food I grew up eating in Korea,” said Bomi Park, Assistant Project Manager at the St. Louis Mosaic Project and World Trade Center St. Louis. “Food has a special power to make people feel at home or introduce people to a new culture. Annie Schlafly (St. Louis International Mentoring Program Coordinator) and Susan Gobbo (St. Louis International Mentoring Program Collaborator) always come up with the best ideas to make people belong in the St. Louis community. At this particular event, they provided a hundred women a space to connect with one another through homemade international food.”
