Statement From President & CEO Tom Chulick Regarding Federal Immigration Policy

The St. Louis Regional Chamber supports strategic and effective immigration policies that encourage business growth and help develop our workforce. St. Louis is a slow-growth metropolitan area. We welcome people who will contribute to our region. That is why we have long encouraged initiatives like the St. Louis Mosaic Project and other efforts to increase foreign-born immigration into our community.

That also means we support responsible immigration policies at the national level – which does not and cannot include practices that separate children from their families, discriminate against entire groups of people, or do not support our region’s long-term workforce needs. We applaud today’s announcement to keep families together, and hope that the conversation continues on how best to implement responsible immigration policies.

The St. Louis region is known as a great place to raise a family. So let us think about families who want to come to the U.S. as potential assets to our community – hopefully that spirit will guide immigration reform.
